Georgia Southern IT Purchasing has identified standard computer configurations to make selecting and purchasing the appropriate hardware easier. Dell has their own “punch-out,” or catalog links, within the Georgia First marketplace in ePro. The link is provided here for your reference.

How Do I Purchase a Computer?

Georgia Southern University offers a selection of standard computer systems that meet University requirements for performance, compatibility, and support.

Dell Systems

Dell campus standard computers can be purchased through the Dell tile in ePro or by contacting your Technical Services Representative through the myHelp system.

Apple Systems

To purchase an Apple computer please contact your Technical Services Representative to request a proposal for your specific needs.  After the proposal has been processed, you will receive a copy from the Apple Store via email. You will then need to process it as a special request in ePro.

  • Please include the proposal number and .pdf in the special request.
  • If your device requires cellular/data service, please complete the Mobile Device Request Form website.

Standard Lenovo equipment can be found through the Lenovo Punchout in the Market Place inside of Epro.

What Kind of Computer Should I Choose?

Desktop Computer

Description: Standard non-portable computer.

Pros:

  • Cheapest computing option
  • Flexible in swapping out parts, monitors, and input devices
  • Warranty support handled on campus

Cons:

  • Not portable

Laptop Computer

Description: Lightweight computer that offers full computing functionality, including monitor, keyboard, and other peripherals.

Pros:

  • Portability allows use at home, remote sites, and while traveling
  • For mobile personnel, a laptop with a port replicator is preferred instead of purchasing both a desktop and a laptop

Cons:

  • More expensive compared to a desktop computer
  • Less flexibility in swapping out parts
  • Easily stolen, dropped, or damaged
  • Most warranty support requires shipping to the manufacturer

Profile Computer

Description: A desktop computer in a small case with a built-in monitor; requires connection of a keyboard and other peripheral devices.

Pros:

  • Same functionality as a desktop computer
  • Warranty support handled on campus

Cons:

  • Slightly more expensive than a desktop computer
  • Not portable
